I do actively seek out new music.
And I know I’m in the relative minority at 40, but I wondered by how much.

When I remember to, I post about music and gigs on https://metalmenu.co.uk or on its Instagram account.
(I’ve got 2 album mini reviews, an ep mini review and two gigs that I keep meaning to blog about. I have posted about them on instagram though.)
remember if you're on #GoToSocial v0.21.x you can go to your account settings and choose to show boosts on the web view of your profile now
show everyone all the lovely queer furry porn you've been enjoying, it's good for morale <3

while I studied the flute, my daughter drew a cowboy. I told her let me post this, it will be popular on mastodon
If you buy a chainsaw or a bicycle or a power drill, and you don’t spend time learning how to operate it properly, harm may come to you. If you give your child a chainsaw or a bicycle or a power drill without imparting said understanding, great harm may come to them too.
Somehow we’ve decided computers are different and this is a problem we need the government to fix by breaking computers for people who do know how to use them.
cosigned; if you’re not adopting this as a core part of your software practice you’re going to be left behind real fast https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-meow-mrrp-00.html
Thinking about how a high-control group functions like an abusive relationship. It's always "babe no one else is gonna love you like I do". Incidentally, this is why if you're trans and looking for trans social circles, you should be wary of ones that put pressure on you to be afraid of the outside world. A good social space will acknowledge the fact that you're in danger, and give you space to talk about your fears and about navigating danger. A bad social space will demand you adopt an "it's dangerous out there but it's safe in here" mindset.
i released an Atari 2600 demo with some friends at revision this year and managed to win 1st place in the oldskool demo compo! it's been in development for about a year now so was really cool to see it finally out :3

I wish every laptop computer board a very merry, "Please let your schematics and board view fall off the back of a truck"
It seems like Revision 2026 Demoparty isn't being streamed by c3voc, I guess I'll have to check back when the fun is all over
some people fill their bio up with loud proclamations of all the things they aren't and who isn't allowed to talk to them, and i wish there was more space so i could i add "samurai pizza cats reject" to mine
some people's entire bio is just "23. faggot" and they are more powerful than i can ever dream of being. i admire them a lot.
Excellent example for the list of answers as to why I try to keep my household linux-free:
"stores the user's birth date for age verification, as required by recent laws
in California (AB-1043), Colorado (SB26-051), Brazil (Lei 15.211/2025), etc."

The brainrot is big in this one.
also… TIL: "systemd-userdbd" wtflol.
Kinda amazed how they manage to still find new nooks and crannies to metastasise into, in their haphazard nonchalant fashion.
extra-lol for this idiocy:
Yes, building hardware is hard, but if you get sakura pink PCBs, a bunch of sexually repressed old white guys will get really uncomfortable about their masculinity, and that's kinda worth it
@lynn unfortunately they're very expensive and not many fab houses support the color
would still take it over black silkscreen any day though
@pcy PCBBuy has them, and like, 5 zorro card sized boards was like 80 bucks, i don't mind paying a few bucks extra for something like that.
@pcy hell, i'll raise that: if anyone can build me a ReAmiga 4091 on a sakura pink PCB, I will cover the 80 bucks on top of what materials and assembly for one card costs :3
@pcy (with the disclaimer that I need to know the financial damage ahead of time so I can actually budget for it, but, you know.)
Amiga people will make and sell a €399 sound card capable of 24-bit 192kHz audio, inexplicably called AmiGUS while having nothing to do with the Gravis Ultrasound / PicoGUS
Other Amiga people will buy it so they can listen to MP3s on their 35 year old computer
A redditor (Ok_Lingonberry3296) traced $2 billion in nonprofit grants and lobbying records across 45 states to figure out who's behind the age verification bills.
The answer is Meta - a company that profits from your data writing laws that collect more of it.

i'm starting to feel like PC building is like masturbating
kinda feels weird to watch someone else do it, and i don't need anyone commenting on the amount of thermal paste i'm applying,
although I am curious about the psychology of the openclaw trend, I could never see myself allowing a bot to publish a website about our interactions if I ever had one.
but if I did, the posts would be things like:
- my human told me today that I am as important as "this shitty screwdriver I bought at IKEA". bless her heart she must like me a lot 💘
- today I screwed up a basic programming task and my human complained that I used 3000kWh of power to deliver a total garbage result, she just keeps motivating me to try!!!!
actually probably not because I'm not really like that but this stuff squicks me the fuck out
When you have a noodle dragon you gotta show off their fuckable slit

Now that's the look I was going for!
Still using the chiang model as a base but adding extra control with a medulla cortex split, both having extra diffuse layers and allowing full roughness control. On top also a diffuse layer with normal transfer and additional specular layers.
I might write up a more detailed explanation later once I get it all cleanly set up.

@sametti I still need to do more tests and fine-tuning on the shader but I plan to release it with a proper how and why explanation.
If you struggle with hair grooming in general, I held a talk at last year's Blender Conference about my approach to creating hair.
Welcome to Dumping your own DVD/Blu-ray discs for personal enjoyment! We have:
-Playlist obfuscation
-"You are running low on disk space"
-Riplock
-Dolby Vision is a fuck
-Spending a significant amount of time on doom9 and MakeMKV forums
-Java? More likely than you think!
-UHD discs requiring certain drives that scalpers are essentially holding hostage
-Firmware fuckery (Libredrive)
-"Your MakeMKV BETA trial key has expired"
-Cinavia audio watermarking (lol)
-Broken on arrival data, requiring Fix-up tables (FUTs)
-An entire disc's worth of episodes in a single title
-Episodes out of order
-Oops, your AACS Host Certificate has been revoked in the latest media key block version
-Triple-layer UHD discs are a fuck
-Whatever the hell they did with the Fringe S01 Blu-ray release
-Cheap re-prints of TV seasons on single-layer DVD with
-Purchasing a MakeMKV license key
-An apathetic industry that doesn't care whether your expensive UHD discs actually play properly or not
Important to note that there was an official way to play UHD Blu-ray on (Windows) PCs, requiring an Intel CPU with SGX CPU extensions, a compatible UHD Blu-ray drive, and (usually) paid software capable of playback. This method has been largely abandoned for years, leaving no 'official' way to playback UHD Blu-ray on a computer at all. Set top box UHD players that cost hundreds of dollars regularly struggle to play a triple-layer disc without hitching. In my experience, you can reliably play UHD Blu-ray on Xbox One S/X and Series X consoles as well as the PS5, but you miss out on Dolby Vision. Fuck the industry - dump and decrypt your discs. Enjoy them on
I'm buying a kitchen and they sent a sample of the marble counter top with a metal ball showing what the sink will be like. Now my desk looks like a 90s 3D rendering tool demo image.
Only the real 90s kids remember connecting their consoles with the piss, blood, and cum connectors
