programming hot take [SENSITIVE CONTENT]something i dislike about the "opinionated" nature of the rust language is that it has inspired an entire generation of developers to force their bad opinions on me. like, rust forces its opinions with the upshot that there are some cool safety guarantees, i.e. there are many ways to skin the "safety" cat and rust picks one. this makes complete sense. meanwhile, downstream projects like rhai (a dynamic scripting language written in rust) force opinions like "global state is bad" for no particular reason other than the developers think it's a good idea. little did they know, half the reason i wanted to pull in a scripting runtime is precisely to allow for global state!!!
